ISSUES
In 2009, MDMA will continue to focus its advocacy efforts on improving the legislative and regulatory environment for medical technology innovators. The four primary platforms of MDMA’s 2009 Public Policy Agenda include: ensuring preservation of the Food and Drug Administration approval process for medical technologies; promoting adequate reimbursement for innovative technology, including ensuring that comparative effectiveness research does not implicate coverage decisions based on cost; ensuring open market access for manufacturers; and advocating for patent reform that modernizes the patent system while preserving the current method for calculating damages in infringement cases.
