REPRESENTATION IN WASHINGTON

As the voice of the research-based, entrepreneurial sector of the medical technology industry, MDMA plays a proactive role in helping to shape policies that impact the medical device innovator. This is accomplished by maintaining relationships with key Members of Congress, high-level staff at FDA and CMS, and through the grassroots support of our members.  TOP

GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY

MDMA is a member driven organization. Members are actively involved in shaping and implementing every facet of MDMA's public policy agenda which includes representing our industry on Capitol Hill. MDMA has formed several task forces to address some of the many challenges facing innovative medical device companies. Current active task forces focus on Medicare coverage and reimbursement, FDA / MDUFMA, group purchasing organizations (GPOs), and gainsharing. Each task force meets monthly via conference call to review the very latest policy, legislative and regulatory developments, and if necessary assist in drafting comments to federal agencies. In addition to participating on conference calls, task force members receive additional regular email updates and breaking news on issues related to their task force.

MDMA's Legislative Action Center arms members with the tools to quickly and easily contact Members of Congress regarding important issues and legislation.  Whether the potential impact of pending legislation on the device industry is positive or negative, it is critical that the entrepreneurial sector of the marketplace is represented and heard.  TOP

INFORMATION & EDUCATION

MDMA provides up-to-date information on the latest legislative and regulatory developments in Washington. Upon joining MDMA, new members are added to our members' only email distribution list and given access to the members' only portion of our website.  Email updates are sent weekly and whenever there is breaking news to report. The members only portion of the website contains the latest information on MDMA's activities on user fees, group purchasing organizations, gainsharing, reimbursement and other federal affairs topics; detailed legislative analyses; and articles and special reports written by outside experts on legal, regulatory, international and other issues of critical importance to medical device entrepreneurs.  TOP

“Preventing Costly Mishires—a free workshop program from The Cassie-Shipherd Group and MDMA”
Hiring the wrong person is costly. Estimates are that mishiring an individual at a salary of $50,000 a year could cost you as much as $700,000 over that year in severance fees, missed opportunities, compensation, plus rehiring costs. What is even more astounding is that 50% of the hires made in a year are MISHIRES. The costs of mishiring can be particularly acute for smaller organizations. The Cassie-Shipherd Group a nationally known executive recruiting organization is offering a workshop through the MDMA to assist its members in appropriate candidate selection.
The concept outlined in this workshop is that filling a position correctly starts with a rigorous examination of what the organization requires for success in that position. This crucial first step is then followed by matching the position requirements against candidate qualifications in a structured manner. The concept of attracting “A” players is outlined and a process of assessing candidates using a patterned interview technique is developed.
