CHAIRMANJOE E. KIANI Chairman & CEO Masimo Corporation Joe E. Kiani is the founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Masimo Corporation. Mr. Kiani has held these positions since Masimo’s inception in 1989. Mr. Kiani is an inventor on more than 50 patents related to signal processing, sensors, and patient monitoring, including patents for the invention of motion and low-perfusion tolerant pulse oximetry. Prior to founding Masimo Corporation, Mr. Kiani served as regional technical manager for Anthem Electronics, and field applications engineer for Bell Industries, which distributed advanced semiconductor components. He serves on the Board of SABA, a publicly traded software company focused on Human Capital Development and Management solutions, Orange County Section of March of Dimes, and the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA). Mr. Kiani has a B.S.E.E. degree and an M.S.E.E. degree from San Diego State University. |
VICE CHAIRMANEAMONN P. HOBBS President & CEO AngioDynamics, Inc. Eamonn Hobbs is President and Chief Executive Officer of AngioDynamics; he is also a co-founder of the company. Mr. Hobbs has more than 25 years experience in interventional radiology, interventional cardiology and the gastroenterology medical device industry. He is a bio-medical engineer, with a Bachelor of Sciences in Plastics Engineering with a Biomaterials emphasis from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Mr. Hobbs started his career at Cook Incorporated. From 1983 to 1985, he was President and CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Hobbs Medical Inc., a medical device firm focused on interventional devices for gastroenterologists. He later served as a Vice President and Senior Vice-President of E-Z-EM, with operational responsibility for what would become AngioDynamics. Mr. Hobbs is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation. In 2005 he was granted an Honorary Fellowship from by the Society of Interventional Radiology and is the only member of the medical device industry to serve on the SIR strategic planning committee. He joined the Medical Device Manufacturers Association Board in 2005. |
TREASURERALEXIS LUKIANOV Chairman and CEO NuVasive, Inc. Mr. Lukianov serves as Chairman and CEO of NuVasive, a medical device spine company which develops and markets unique minimally disruptive surgery products. Since joining NuVasive as CEO in 1999, he has led the company through venture capital financing, commercialization, initial public offering, public follow-on offering and a convertible debt financing for potential acquisitions. NuVasive has a market capitalization of well over $1 billion. Lukianov has over 25 years of senior management experience in the orthopedic industry and has been associated with building highly-successful companies. He was a founder, chairman and chief executive officer of BackCare Group, which he sold to a Robert Bass company. Lukianov served as a director of the Ilizarov Business Unit of Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, and was directly responsible for bringing revolutionary limb lengthening and tissue regeneration technology out of Russia and establishing worldwide manufacturing, marketing, and sales. He was also a key manager in a sports medicine joint venture in artificial ligaments between Stryker Corporation and Meadox Medicals. SECRETARYKELVYN H. CULLIMORE, JR. President & CEO Dynatronics Corporation Kelvyn Cullimore Jr presently serves as Chairman, President & CEO of Dynatronics Corporation, a publicly traded medical device manufacturer with headquarters in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Kelvyn has served as a Director and Officer of Dynatronics since it was founded in 1979. Prominent in the physical therapy market, Dynatronics is known for its advanced technology electrotherapy and ultrasound devices, pain management systems and aesthetic products. Dynatronics equipment is used by top therapists and trainers with a majority of professional sports franchises and college teams owning Dynatronics products. In November 2004 he was elected the first Mayor of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, a new city of approximately 40,000 residents after serving for three years on the committee to incorporate the area. Since 1992, Kelvyn has been a member of the Board and chairman of the audit committee of ITEC Attractions, an entertainment company operating in Branson, Missouri. WAYNE K. BARLOW Wayne K. Barlow is an inventor/entrepreneur and business leader. He has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wescor, Inc, since the company was founded in 1970. He invented or co-invented many of the unique instruments and products that have made Wescor a respected name in the diagnostic laboratory market and the world leader in the laboratory diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. Mr. Barlow is a past MDMA chairman and also served as chairman of the Utah Biomedical Industry Council and president of the National Medical Device Coalition. He was a charter member of the FDA/Industry Grassroots Initiatives Task Force when it was formed in 1995 and has served as its chairman since 1998. He received the “Commissioner’s Special Citation” for his work in developing a “cooperative/collaborative working relationship between the medical device industry and the FDA.” Mr. Barlow earned A.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering, minoring in physics. He is a former member of the Engineering Research Faculty at Utah State University and is a member and a past chairman of the Industry Advisory Council of the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering. Among numerous other honors, he received the “Professional Achievement Award” from the USU Alumni Association and the College of Business, the “Outstanding Alumnus Award” from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, and was named “Industry Executive of the Year” in a readership poll conducted in 1993 by Medical Device Executive magazine. Christopher Chavez is president of Advanced Neuromodulation Systems (ANS) (www.ans-medical.com), a division of St. Jude Medical. Joining ANS as president, CEO and director in 1998, Mr. Chavez guided ANS through a nine-year period of successful growth and through its acquisition by St. Jude Medical. Mr. Chavez started his career in the medical device industry with Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc. in 1981 and progressed through several cross-functional roles to become vice president and general manager of the infection control business unit, with approximately $500 million in worldwide revenues. Prior to ANS, he served as vice president of worldwide marketing and strategic planning at Eastman Kodak’s health imaging division, where the division’s five worldwide business units reported to him. In government service, Mr. Gary was a professional staff member specializing in national security matters. Prior to his appointment with Allergan in 1991, he was a senior executive with 3M Company, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Baxter International, and the Warner-Lambert Company. Mr. Gary graduated from George Washington University and was a Congressional Fellow in the university’s Political Science Department. ROBERT S. KIEVALFounder & Chief Technology Officer CVRx, Inc. Robert Kieval is Founder, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of CVRx, Inc., a private medical device company located in Minneapolis, MN. He is a member of its Board of Directors, and served as President and CEO of CVRx from its inception in 2001 through October, 2006. During that time, he advanced the company from initial product concept through FDA approval to commence a pivotal clinical trial of CVRx’s flagship product, the Rheos Baroreflex Hypertension Therapy System. Prior to joining, he was President of the Americas for Bausch and Lomb, Inc., a full service ophthalmology company with eyecare products ranging from laser refractive surgery, contact lenses and pharmaceuticals, to consumer eyecare products. JO ELLEN SLURZBERGVice-President Reimbursement and Health Policy Guided Delivery Systems Ms. Slurzberg joined Guided Delivery Systems, Inc. in October 2008, a private medical device start up, as Vice President, Health Policy and Strategic Planning. She is responsible for worldwide strategic reimbursement and health policy. Prior to GDS, she worked for Almyra, Inc., a private international medical device holding company as Vice-President of Reimbursement. From 2000-2004, Ms. Slurzberg was part of the executive consulting team at Boston Healthcare Associates, serving as Vice-President of Consulting, leading the strategic reimbursement practice, consulting to the medical device, in vitro diagnostics, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industry, as well as to various investment banks and venture capital firms. She has over 25 years of experience in the life sciences industry, with a focus on US and EU reimbursement. In 2006, Ms. Slurzberg was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) and she chairs the MDMA Reimbursement Working Group. In 2005, MX magazine (Canon Communications) profiled her among four US reimbursement experts for the year and in 2006 was named to the MX Advisory Board. She has conducted training programs and authored publications on general reimbursement, including two Harvard Business School Notes with Professor Regina Herzlinger. She speaks frequently on reimbursement related business planning and development topics. |
THOMAS THOMPSONPresident Neuro Resource Group, Inc. Tommy Thompson is a successful and recognized leader in the medical device industry. His 30 years as a President and CEO has included 5 years as a Division President for Baxter Healthcare, and 18 years with Quest Medical (now Advanced Neuromodulation Systems, Inc.) of which he was a founder. Thompson brings to NRG a wealth of experience that has included private funding, strategic alliances and three public offerings. Thompson has co-founded two companies that manufactured products for intravenous drug delivery, cardiovascular surgery, and implantable neurostimulation. In the US, Thompson was co-founder and founding chairman of the Medical Device Manufacturing Association, which played a key role in the legislative reform of the FDA in 1997 and the reform of Group Purchasing Organization practices in 2002. With his roots in electronic engineering, Thompson has also been responsible for major development programs in microprocessor-based instrumentation and sterile, disposable medical devices. PAUL TOUHEYPresident & CEO Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc. As President and CEO of Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc. (FDI), Paul Touhey leads the world’s premier cancer diagnostics companies. Touhey brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the position, in which he is responsible for the company’s growth in the competitive in vitro diagnostics industry. Touhey joined FDI, formerly Centocor Diagnostics, in 1985, where he has held a variety of positions including Senior Vice President of Operations. Prior to FDI and Centocor, Touhey worked for Johnson & Johnson in a variety of positions with increasing levels of responsibility and management. Touhey is past Chairman and current member of the Board of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), a national trade association representing the entrepreneurial sector of the medical device industry in the United States, and is a member of the FDA/Industry Grass Roots Task Force and the Board of the Pennsylvania Bio Association. Touhey established the Companies of Caring Campaign with the Community Volunteers in Medicine, a Chester County charity focusing on providing medical care to the uninsured. C. RUSSELL TRENARY, IIIExecutive Vice President, Global Public Policy & Medical Education Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. C. Russell Trenary III (Russ) is Executive Vice President, Global Public Policy and Medical Education. He rejoined AMO after the company’s 2002 spin-off from Allergan. From 1996 to 2001, Mr.Trenary was the President of Sunrise Technologies International, Inc., and from 1997 to 2001 he held the additional title of Chief Executive Officer. From 1995 to 1996, Mr. Trenary was Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, for Vidamed, Inc. Mr. Trenary began his career in 1981 with American Hospital Supply Corporation (AHSC), and in 1986, was a manager for the American Medical Optics division of AHSC when that division was acquired by Allergan. This became the business under which Allergan entered the ophthalmic surgical market. While at Allergan from 1987 to 1995, Mr.Trenary held positions of increasing responsibility in the surgical business segment, culminating with the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMO Surgical Products, a position he held from 1991 to 1995. Mr. Trenary holds a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miami University (Ohio). He is an active member on the Board of Directors for the Medical Device Manufacturers Association, Prevent Blindness America, Pan-American Ophthalmological Foundation and the American Optometric Foundation. |
MARK WANPartner Three Arch Partners Mark is a founding partner of Three Arch Partners. Prior to cofounding Three Arch Partners, Mark was a general partner at Brentwood Associates. Since starting in venture capital in 1987, Mark has emphasized working with entrepreneurs in very early stage companies. He has often assumed temporary operating responsibility, managing key functions during a company’s young life. He has served on the boards of many private and public medical companies including Biopsys Medical, Odyssey Healthcare and Perclose. RONALD B. EARLE As past Group Senior Vice President, B. Braun OEM Division, B. Braun Medical, Inc., a corporate position reporting to Main office in Germany, Earle was responsible for the development of a global strategic operation, utilizing the full resources of the B. Braun organization around the world. The position responsibilities include overseeing the OEM/Industrial Division and International Division, plus the establishment of a global team dedicated to the OEM/Contract manufacturing business. Under his guidance since 1982, OEM operations grew almost 15-fold to over $200 million in revenue. Recently, Earle was named one of the nation’s most notable 100 medical device executives by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Medical Device Manufacturers Association since 2001, and sits on the Board of Visitors to the School of Pharmacy, Temple University, and is a member of the Medical Products Outsourcing advisory board. Earle has written several articles for various industrial publications on outsourcing trends and new technologies in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. |
