MDMA Submits Comments on Medical Device Tax, Stresses Need for Repeal and Calls for One Year Delay by IRS

03/28/2011

WASHINGTON, DC – The Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) today submitted comments to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding the medical device tax that passed as a part of the Affordable Care Act, reiterating its support for a full repeal while noting the impact the tax would have on small and mid-sized innovators.

“MDMA continues to passionately work for a full repeal of this ‘innovation’ tax which will harm patient care and job creation,” said Mark Leahey, President and CEO of MDMA.  “Momentum is building on these bipartisan efforts, and it is our hope that the IRS would support a one year delay in the implementation of this tax if repeal efforts are unsuccessful.  Although the 'innovation' tax does not go into effect until 2013, we believe that meaningful, comprehensive and workable guidance will take far longer to develop."
