New Legislation Introduced to Repeal the Device Tax

06/30/2010

Legislation was introduced this week to repeal the medical device tax and offset its costs by using unspent stimulus funds. The legislation, introduced by Congressman Brian Bilbray (CA-50), recognizes the important role medical device manufacturers play in improving patient care and driving innovation.

Congressman Bilbray’s legislation is the second bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that addresses the device tax. Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) also introduced legislation that seeks to eliminate this tax which would hurt patient care and job-creation if implemented in 2013.

MDMA has consistently been opposed to the device tax, and looks forward to working with elected officials to make sure that the United States maintains its position as the global leader in medical technology innovation.
