CMS Releases FY 2011 Proposed Rule

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released the FY 2011 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule. The proposed rule on IPPS relates to most reimbursement for items, services, and procedures under the Medicare inpatient system. The proposal calls for a negative market basket payment update for reimbursement under the system. The negative payment update is intended to account for coding corrections over the past several years. In addition, however, several procedure categories in the cardiovascular and orthopedic spaces received positive payment updates.

MDMA is currently reviewing the rule and will provide a summary to members during the next Reimbursement Working Group call.
