MDMA Announces New Director of Public Affairs
WASHINGTON, DC – The Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) today announced the hiring of Brendan Benner, a seasoned Capitol Hill staffer and campaign strategist, who will serve as their new Director of Public Affairs. The addition to the MDMA team comes on the heels of sweeping health care legislation that has galvanized the medical device industry.
“Brendan’s diverse experience on Capitol Hill and with numerous campaigns will be a tremendous asset to MDMA as we continue to advocate for our members,” said Mark Leahey, President and CEO of the MDMA. “Brendan is a seasoned strategic planner who is an expert at identifying new opportunities and communicating complex issues to a vast array of audiences. He will have an immediate impact with our team as we continue to address the new challenges facing our industry.”
Benner has extensive experience in the private and public sector, as well as working with non-profits. He worked on Capitol Hill for several years, serving both as a Communications Director and District Director for Members of Congress, and served as the Pennsylvania Victory Communications Director for John McCain’s 2008 presidential race. Most recently, he was the campaign manager for one of the most competitive open House seats in the nation. He has an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, and earned his law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law.
“Medical device manufacturers play a central role in improving the quality of our lives and are a critical component of our nation’s economy,” said Benner. “They are the entrepreneurs who are driving job-creation and producing cutting-edge innovations. I am excited to join the MDMA team to help communicate our message and share the stories and passion that are central to the success of our members.”
