President Nominates Califf as New FDA Commission
The White House recently announced the nomination of Dr. Rob Califf, currently Deputy Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco, to lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as Commissioner. Dr. Califf's nomination is subject to a Senate confirmation.

Dr. Margaret Hamburg, former FDA Commissioner, left FDA this spring, and Dr. Stephen Ostroff who was previously FDA's chief scientist has been leading FDA in the capacity of Acting Commissioner. Dr. Califf is a cardiologist who spent over three decades serving in various capacities at Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke University Medical Center before coming to FDA.
