MDMA files Comments on FY 2015 IPPS Proposed Rule

MDMA recently submitted comments to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner on CMS's proposed changes to the hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) for fiscal year 2015 (FY 2015). In our comments, MDMA reiterated concerns which stress the need to ensure medical technologies, especially new and innovative products, are adequately reimbursed in order to provide greater patient access to life-saving devices as well as safeguard the future development of innovative medical technologies. Specifically, MDMA provided several policy recommendations relating to CMS's overly stringent criteria for new-technology add-on payments. Reforming the overly stringent criteria within the IPPS new technology add-on payment process is essential to the goal of ensuring timely patient access and protecting future innovation.
