WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mark Leahey, President and CEO of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), issued the following statement today on the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing regarding the 21st Century Cures initiative:
“Medical technology innovators can lead the way to addressing our nation’s health care challenges, but only if the proper regulatory and reimbursement frameworks are in place. MDMA thanks the subcommittee for its continued work on improving the efficiency and predictability of the medical device review process, and this hearing highlights the dire need to increase investments in promising technologies and therapies. Doing so will allow this dynamic industry to continue extending life expectancies, improving the quality of life, and reducing the costs of treating chronic conditions.
“MDMA continues to work on the bipartisan goal of increasing access to safe and effective medical technologies for patients and providers. The 21stCentury Cures initiative will play a central role in these efforts, and all stakeholders must remain committed to helping improve the outlook for innovation.”
