MDMA Urges CMS to Utilize New Technology Add-On Payment Process More Frequently

At the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Town Hall meeting on fiscal year 2015 Applications for New Medical Services and Technology Add-On Payments this week, MDMA urged CMS to utilize the new technology add-on payment process as intended by Congress over a decade ago. When Congress authorized add-on payments for new technologies in the inpatient setting, the intent was to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries had access to new technologies that otherwise would not be utilized due to inadequate payment under the existing rates. At this week's meeting, MDMA reiterated the need for CMS to refocus on Congressional intent when reviewing applications for new technology add-on payments, which would allow for greater patient access to innovative medical technologies.
