House Committee Holds Hearing on FDA Appropriations
Thursday, March 1, 2012
As MDMA and other stakeholders continue to finalize work on the MDUFA
negotiations, Congressional Appropriation Committees have begun to hold
hearings on FDA's funding.
FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg
testified before the House Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural
Development, FDA, and Related Agencies this week to discuss some of the
agencies priorities. Many topics were addressed, and some Members
questioned her about FDA's thoughts on the proposed package for medical
device user fees. In addressing the potential establishment of an
independent review of the agency's device review process, Commissioner
Hamburg noted "We are very open to scrutiny."
MDMA continues to urge Members of Congress to provide the appropriate levels of funding for FDA to carry out its mission.
