MDMA Submits Comments on CMS's FY 2014 IPPS Proposed Rule
Tuesday, June 25, 2013
MDMA submitted comments today to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the FY2014 proposed rule for the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS). The proposed rule on IPPS affects most reimbursement for items, services, and procedures under the Medicare inpatient system. The proposed rule calls for a positive payment increase of 0.8% and is generally in line with expectations.
MDMA noted that we continue to have concerns that CMS's overly stringent criteria for new-technology add-on payments will continue to discourage manufacturers from applying for these payments.
"Ensuring payment accuracy will improve the integrity of the Medicare system as well as increase patient access to innovative medical technologies," said Thomas Novelli, Vice President of Government Relations for MDMA. "While MDMA remains concerned that significant issues affecting payments for innovative medical devices have not been adequately addressed in the proposed rule, we look forward to working with CMS to help ensure a fair and reasonable reimbursement system/process exists."
